No action or inaction by a crime survivor makes that person responsible for their victimization. Perpetrators are responsible for crimes and their effects. To reduce the chances of being targeted for personal crimes, consider the following:
- We encourage you to save the University Police emergency number (508-793-7575) as a favorite in your phone to be connected with a dispatcher 24/7.
- If working or studying late, arrange to leave with a friend or utilize a ride share service or call University Police at for a walking, visual, or driving safety escort.

- Keep doors and windows secured, even if you are leaving your room or office for a short period of time.
- “See Something, Say Something” – report suspicious activity or conditions to University Police.
- Download the RAVE Guardian app to receive ClarkALERTS; be connected with emergency services, submit tips to University Police, and activate a safety timer.
- Be aware of your surroundings at all times.
- If confronted with a threatening situation, yell loudly, run towards an emergency call box or University Police station. Try to get a physical description of the individual(s) and/or the license plate if a vehicle is involved and notify University Police immediately.
- If confronted by someone who only wants property, give it to them.
